About Us

Woodland Horse Center is dedicated to the preservation of the art and sport of riding and welcomes you to come and enjoy the opportunity to ride. The Center is located on a 25-acre estate eight miles north of the Capital Beltway.  It is easily accessible from Montgomery, Howard and Prince George's Counties.

Woodland has a lighted outdoor ring, dressage ring and an indoor ring.  The facility also has fields for students to ride in as well as being conveniently located to riding trails.

Woodland has a complete program of equestrian activities for its students, offering both adult and children lessons, grooming and working student programs, boarding, horse sales and a fully equipped Tack Shop.  While lessons are mainly English balance seat, western lessons are available on a limited basis for adults only.

Our grooming and working student programs are for riders of all ages who want to learn more about grooming, tacking and working around a barn. Students in these programs earn extra riding time.

Our Pony Pal Club is oriented toward those riders from 5-7 years old. The children meet on a regular basis to learn more about horses and horse-related activities.

Students aged 8 and up are schooled in flat classes, jumping and go on trail rides too.  For more specific information on our riding programs, please go to

Free Introductory Lessons

Woodland
offers a free introductory lesson every Sunday (except when Sundays fall on major holidays, (i.e., Easter, Christmas, New Year's) at 1:00 p.m. The lesson lasts about an hour and a half.  Visitors hear a short lecture on safety and horsemanship and then get to ride. Afterward, potential students can talk to us about lessons, costs, etc.  All participants must wear HARD SOLE SHOES (no sandals allowed) and long pants.  Once you arrive at Woodland, you have to fill out a disclaimer, grab a helmet (we supply them for the introductory lesson) and get ready to ride.

Introductory lessons are limited to one lesson per person annually and are intended for those interested in taking lessons.
